Before there was social media, there were internet forums. Millions of forum sites continue to operate, which is why it's notable that one top forum software provider, NodeBB, is now joining the fediverse, also known as the open social web.
Could this be a revival for forums, and make them go mainstream again? At least in the long run? I have active accounts on many forums, mostly used for software support and community building around specific tools. The user experience in communities built on NodeBB, Discourse, and similar solutions are top notch and I would love to see more general forums flourish again.
One thing I learned recently is that Discourse could be used as a solution for comments on blogs. Wouldn't it be cool if a couple of bloggers used the same Discourse instance as their comment solution?
